Dr Francesca Saffioti, Consultant Hepatologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has been recently conferred the title of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Hepatology and Gastroenterology by the Medical Sciences Divisional Board of the Clinical School of the University of Oxford, in recognition of her contribution to the work of the Clinical School and her ongoing research activity in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Francesca’s main areas of expertise include cholestatic and autoimmune liver disease, non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis and portal hypertension, advanced chronic liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, pre-and post-liver transplant management.
She completed her PhD studies in Clinical and Surgical Biotechnologies at the University of Messina, Italy, in November 2018, receiving the highest distinction and the additional title of "Doctor Europaeus".
She remains very active in the teaching and research activities of the Department and provides formal and informal teaching to medical students and trainees of all grades. She is also the consultant in charge for the organisation of the Hepatology Grand Rounds at OUH. She is Principal Investigator and sub-investigator in several clinical trials for patients with chronic liver disease, runs independent research and continues to collaborate with various important international research groups.
