Sample Management 02

ORTU has been collecting samples from trial participants for many years, and over this time a large library of retained samples has been kept and used for future research. Since the introduction of the Human Tissue Act in 2006 explicit consent for this storage and use has been essential. ORTU requests consent for storage of leftover samples from our study participants.

These samples collected during ORTU studies are held under University Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence 12217.  To use them, researchers must obtain appropriate ethical approval from an ethics committee.

In addition to these samples, ORTU works closely with the respiratory clinical team to consent donors to allow their leftover samples from clinical procedures to be stored in the ORTU pleural biobank, for research.  This is part of the Oxford Radcliffe Biobank https://www.nds.ox.ac.uk/orb/orb
