Gundra Raissar

I am a Research Assistant in the Coeliac group in the Klenerman Lab. Our work in the Coeliac group led by Dr Michael Fitzpatrick centers on investigating the immunology of coeliac disease through the analysis of clinical samples. This research is funded by the charitable organisation Beyond Celiac.

During my undergraduate degree in Virology and Immunology at the University of Bristol, I contributed to a research project in the virology of coronaviruses under the supervision of Prof Andrew Davidson. As part of the degree, I also completed an industrial placement at GlaxoSmithKline in the development of antibody-based therapeutics. In the final year of my degree, I undertook my dissertation research project in the Wooldridge Clinical T cell Lab studying the CD8+ T cell response against SARS-CoV-2. Upon graduation, my work as Research Assistant in the same lab built on this research. During the course of my academic journey, my research interests evolved towards immunology, prompting me to pursue a MSc in Integrated Immunology at the University of Oxford. During my postgraduate degree, I made contributions to research in the Bottomley group at the CAMS Oxford Institute studying immunosenescence in kidney transplant patients.
