Pathogen Research
Pathogen Research is primarily carried out in the Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research.
The Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research hosts teams tackling problems of infectious diseases affecting millions globally.
Groups are studying HIV, viral hepatitis (B and C), influenza and bacterial pathogens. The work is a blend of understanding the microbial evolution and the ongoing host responses against microbes. This process of co-evolution is seen within individuals, where it impacts on the outcome of infection, and in populations, where it affects the epidemic spread of such diseases.
The building hosts around 20 groups including teams from NDM Tropical Medicine and also from Zoology, Paediatrics and NDORMS
The main Experimental Medicine PIs based at the Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research are Professor Ellie Barnes, Professor John Frater, Professor Paul Klenerman, Dr Philippa Matthews and Professor Peter Simmonds.
