Senior Researcher - Healthcare AI

Safe, responsible, and clinically meaningful healthcare AI

Praveen Kanithi is a Senior Researcher in Healthcare AI at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on developing safe, responsible, and impactful machine learning methods for healthcare, with a particular interest in infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and AI-enabled public health surveillance. He is currently exploring the use of language models for extracting and evaluating health intelligence from diverse information sources to strengthen infectious disease surveillance and public health decision-making.

Prior to joining Oxford, he spent nearly six years at M42 (G42 Healthcare) in Abu Dhabi, where he worked on clinical AI, foundation models, and multimodal machine learning across genomics, electronic health records, claims data, medical imaging, and population-scale healthcare datasets. He holds a PhD from the HITLab, New Zealand, and an M.Tech. in Medical Imaging and Informatics from IIT Kharagpur.
