Donald Smith

Postdoctoral Scientist

Managing Editor ICTV Report

The International Committee for the Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) is responsible for the taxonomy of viruses. Information about this taxonomy is summarised on the ICTV website (ictv.global/taxonomy) and expanded upon in the ICTV Report (ictv.global/report) for which I am the Managing Editor. Each Report chapter usually deals with one virus family, and is accompanied by a two-page summary published as an ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profile in the Journal of General Virology. This work is supported by a grant from the Wellcome Trust to Professor Peter Simmonds.

I have previously worked on influenza virus, hepatitis C virus and hepatitis E virus, as well as on the parasitic helminth Schistosoma japonicum, a gene from which I used to create the pGEX bacterial expression vectors.
