The purpose of the study is to develop and improve magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to help in the assessment of biliary diseases. The current MRI scan interpretation relies on a specialist reviewing and providing their own description of the images. The aim of this study is to identify the best techniques using MRI that produce automatic measurements of the bile ducts and liver that can be used in assessing diseases without having to depend entirely on a specialist review of the images. Two software packages called MRCP+ and LiverMultiscan™ (Perspectum Diagnostics, Oxford, UK) will be used to study the bile ducts and liver.

We hope to be able to use these measurements to help in the earlier detection of diseases, monitoring disease activity, progression and response to treatment, as well as predict clinical outcomes including health status and quality of life. Data from this research will be analysed by Dr Emmanuel Selvaraj as part of his DPhil (Dr of Philosophy) qualification with University of Oxford.
 
One of the study groups involves patients with IgG4-sclerosing cholangitis (IgG4-SC). The following patients will be considered to participate in this study:
- New diagnosis
- Disease relapse
- High-risk of disease relapse
- Non-responder to treatment
