As a Gastroenterology trainee I became interested in colorectal cancer genetics after coming across several patients with polyposis syndromes and familial predisposition to cancer without a well-defined genetic basis. I decided to pursue research into the role of the microenvironment in gastrointestinal stem cell biology and am currently an MRC clinical research training fellow. My PhD project examines the role of intestinal mesenchyme in creating morphogen gradients in homeostasis and inflammation. I work on human tissue as well as in vivo and in vitro models of microenvironmental disruption.
