The judges awarded Julie Schulthess's entry first prize as the best representation of a biological process (autophagy) as well as being the tastiest cake.

The cake represents anti-microbial autophagy. It shows the elimination of nasty bacteria (pink blobs with red tails) by a macrophage cell. (Note the cake also includes mitochondria, vacuoles, the nucleus and Golgi apparatus)
