Fundamental and Translational Research
Research within the Translational Gastroenterology Unit involves fundamental research on cellular and molecular pathways of innate and adaptive immunity in the intestine, inflammation, and immune system-bacteria interactions. Scientific findings are applied to the study of gastrointestinal diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, chronic liver disease, and cancer. In conjunction with the careful study of clinically and genetically defined patient cohorts, these efforts help identify novel therapeutic strategies and methods for optimising current treatment protocols.
