I became interested in research during my Master`s degree in Biology at the University of Calabria (Italy) working on breast cancer research and endocrinology. During my PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome I developed a strong interest in diabetes and metabolic diseases. My project focussed on the search of new biomarkers in Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of the Adult (LADA) to discriminate it from Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Within this project I also worked on the evaluation of bone strength and turnover markers such as Sclerostin in LADA compared with T2D.
I work at the TGU under the supervision of Dr Carolina Arancibia and Dr Alessandra Geremia. I am currently working on a study in obesity, weight loss interventions and immune system. I am investigating on host-microbial interactions associated to the resolution of inflammation and morbid obesity. This study involves a multi-omic approach to characterise the metabolic signatures in obese patients before and after weight loss interventions such as low-calorie diets and bariatric surgery.
