1. The Management of Fatigue in Patients with Advanced Cancer

A pilot randomised study using a customised rehabilitation toolkit with home care patients who have cancer: funded by the Oxfordshire Health Services Research committee for £48k. Data collection has just been completed and we are currently analysing with a view to publishing. We hope to design a larger trial to bid for national funding.

2. The use of Modafinil for the Treatment of Fatigue in Lung Cancer.

A multi-centre trial using the drug modafinil for the treatment of fatigue in patients with advanced lung cancer: funded by the National Cancer Research Institute Supportive and Palliative Care Lung Research consortium for £250k. This study is led by the group and involves 24 cancer centres in England and Wales. Data collection was successfully completed in 2012 with 208 patients recruited.  Data is currently being analysed.  For more information about this study visit our additional project page.   

3. Edinburgh Pain Assessment Tool (EPAT)

Does the institutionalisation of pain assessment using the EPAT package reduce pain in cancer unit inpatients more than usual care? A cluster randomised trial.  The palliative care research group contributed to this project which is lead by the Edinburgh Cancer Centre.  We successfully completed our recruitment target in 2012 and the data is now being analysed at Edinburgh.
