Their mission is to fund research that helps those with the condition today and contributes to finding a cure for Crohn\u2019s disease in the future whilst making more people in the UK aware of the disease and its symptoms.

Dr Nathan West and Sarah McCuaig from the Translational Gastroenterology Unit created a short video entitled 'You're never alone...immune-bacterial interactions in the gut', which demonstrated the duel between our immune cells and the bacteria colonising our colons.

\n \n\n \n \n \nInflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses a group of inflammatory conditions such as Crohn\u2019s and ulcerative colitis, which currently affect about 1% of the population in the UK, Europe and North America. It is an illness that happens behind closed doors, but the impact for the patient and their family and friends is often harrowing. Prof Simon Travis, a leading consultant at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, is interviewed about IBD.

Scientists from the TGU will be presenting their research at this year's Summer Exhibition in a display titled \"You're never alone. Immune bacterial interactions in the gut.\" The event runs from July 1st to July 6th, 2014 at the Royal Society in London, with free entry for all ages.
